Flex

How easily does this snowboard bend under pressure? A soft flex is great for fun maneuverability while a stiff flex is better for aggressive high speed hill bombing.

At 6'5", 235 lbs with size 14 boots, finding a board that truly fits has always been a challenge. There’s a lot to love about the Lib Tech Skunk Ape Snowboard. The ultra-wide 28.5 cm waist width on the 170 length is perfect—the ratio just feels right. I didn’t realize how much stability I was giving up riding boards that were actually too narrow for me. I’ve been riding since ’92 and have always chosen “wide” boards, but this is the real deal. The flex is exactly what you want: medium-stiff done right. The board is super stable at speed, but you can still maneuver it and torsionally flex it with ease. That’s critical for bigger riders who are typically on huge boards that can feel like tanks. The Magne-Traction strikes a great balance. It’s not the super aggressive, wavy, overly catchy version, but it’s also not so minimal that it disappears. It just works. Honestly, this might be the best carving board I’ve ever ridden—and a lot of that probably comes down to finally being on a board that’s properly sized for me. One thing to note: the true full tip-to-tail camber is the real deal. Nothing matches the feeling of locking into a carve on a steep section with full camber. That said, you do have to stay vigilant—catching an edge is definitely possible. I got used to my Capita Black Snowboard of Death, which you can practically flat-base and spin without consequence. That’s not the case here. At the end of the day, I’m just stoked to finally have a properly fitting board with the right flex and incredible carving ability. Even at this size, it’s easy to engage, and it has plenty of pop for solid ollies.

Great board - base could be improved

Awesome board. Very damp, stable, amazing on east coast ice (I think it has full magnetraction). Only complaint is that the base glide isn't that great when waxed and it seems to lose wax quickly, making the base glide sluggish. Aside from that, amazing board!

What a Ride

Brought a 161 size when they released the camber. What a board the response on this board is awesome whether it’s riding through tight trees or hitting the groomers, Ice to deep Pow this does it all. Great board.

pretty darn good

Im 6'3" and 115kgs size US13 bought a 169W. Very happy with this board. Was slightly more flexible than my previous board but after a few days I adjusted. Im 40 now so dont ride super hard anymore. Was a nice balance of comfort and responsiveness. Would recommend for beginners all the way up to advanced riders. Especially of the chunkier kind.
